da bet vitoria: Southampton midfielder Mario Lemina produced a second successive disappointing performance in his side’s 3-1 defeat to Manchester City at St Mary’s on Sunday.
The Gabon international missed the win against Arsenal and was only a substitute in another triumph against Huddersfield Town at the John Smith’s Stadium last month, but he returned to the starting XI in Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s absence against West Ham United last Thursday.
However, the 25-year-old struggled to make an impact, took too long in possession and gave the ball away at key times against the Irons, before he was replaced by Mohamed Elyounoussi in the 86th minute.
The talented former Juventus man would have been hoping for a better display when he featured alongside Hojbjerg and Oriol Romeu in the middle of the park for the visit of the champions at the weekend, but the match once again passed him by before he was taken off at half-time against Pep Guardiola’s men.
Despite the ability he clearly has and has shown in glimpses following his move from Serie A in the summer of 2017, in general he has flattered to deceive but that didn’t stop him being linked with a £30m move to Paris Saint-Germain in the New Year.
Given Ralph Hasenhuttl has Hojbjerg, Romeu and James Ward-Prowse – who did well from a defensive point of view against City – available to him, he should consider cashing in on the midfielder to boost the funds available to him and bring the players that will fit his system and style of play to St Mary’s.
We want Southampton fans to vote on our poll below to tell us whether they think the club should sell Lemina this month.
