da dobrowin: As reported by The Sun, West Ham United are interested in bringing Danny Ings to the London Stadium from Liverpool in January.
What’s the story?
da prosport bet: As the Hammers embark on a new era under David Moyes, the upcoming transfer window will be an important one for the club, especially with lots of work to do in the English Premier League to avoid a serious relegation crisis.
One area of the team that could with a boost is in attack. Under Slaven Bilic they’ve scored just 11 goals in 11 matches in the top-flight and another striker could provide the competition needed to give them a new potency.
To that end, The Sun report that the club are interested in bringing Danny Ings to London on loan from Liverpool, who are looking for their striker to get serious game time now he his back to full health.
As a budget option, it seems to be a smart short-term solution but with injuries already a real problem at West Ham, can they afford the risk of having another on their books at risk of a long-term lay-off?
A risk worth taking?
Rated at £7.2m by Transfermarkt, there’s no doubting that on his day Danny Ings can be an effective top-flight striker. Instrumental in Burnley’s ascent to the English Premier Premier league in 2014, he followed that up with a double figure season in terms of goals in his debut campaign at the top level.
That won him a big move to Liverpool and since then injuries have ravaged his career, having to undergo two operations on his knee since making the switch to Anfield.
Back to full fitness, he’s played just once for the Reds this season with Jurgen Klopp transforming their frontline to be more focused on the dynamic counter-attacking skills of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.
The problem for West Ham is that they’ve been cursed with injury issues of their own in attack with Andy Carroll suffering significantly and new signing Javier Hernandez having just picked up a hamstring problem. They need a reliable striker who can play consistently without issue and Ings’ recent history suggests he may not be that player.
However, a loan deal is relatively risk-free and West Ham could be the type of club that Ings can find his scoring touch for again, making it a move that suits all parties.
