da casino: ESPN pundit Steve Nicol believes that Chelsea will look back on their transfer window and declare it a failure.
da supremo: The Premier League champions have received some criticism from fans on social media for their lack of spending so far in the window.
As it stands, Antonio Conte has added two new faces to his team – goalkeeper Willy Caballero from Manchester City and Roma defender Antonio Rudiger.
The Blues suffered an embarrassing setback when rumoured target Romelu Lukaku opted against rejoining his former club and instead signing for Manchester United.
Due to the likelihood that Diego Costa will leave Chelsea this summer, the club will be in desperate need to sign a new striker, but they are yet to do so.
They are, however, on the verge of wrapping up a £40m deal for Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko, according to The Express.
From Nicol’s point of view, though, Chelsea are not adding signings that will keep them above their rivals in the Premier League.
He told ESPN:
“You have to add. When you’re as strong as they were, you know that the opposition are going to try and catch up with you. That means you have to stay one step ahead. Staying one step ahead means that when you’re at your best, you add quality. They haven’t done that, they don’t look as if they’re going to.”
