da betsson: This season has without a doubt been the toughest in Arsene Wenger’s long Arsenal tenure.
da bet7: In his third decade of management at the north London side, Wenger is by far the longest serving manager in the division and has tasted success on countless occasions. Multiple Premier League titles, FA Cups; the Frenchman has won a lot.
However, after going over ten years without silverware until the FA Cup success of 2013/14, pressure has been building on the Arsenal boss’ shoulders for some time. Successfully guiding his team to a top four finish in every year he has been at the helm has ensured the club’s participation in the lucrative Champions League and for a long time this has been enough for Gunners fans. Alas, many have now reached the end of their tether.
Arsenal look extremely unlikely to break into the top four this season, meaning Wenger may well experience his first season in England without the top stage of European club football. With only the FA Cup to play for, Arsenal’s season could be deemed a complete disaster.
‘#WengerOut’ has become a global phenomenon, with signs calling for the manager’s head spotted across the globe. But, Gunners fans, you may not like what we’re about to say: Wenger could still be in charge at the Emirates Stadium for another few years, and here are THREE things he needs to do to ensure that…
Sign Kolasniac
The Bosnian defender looked likely to join the club on a free transfer from German side Schalke, and fans had all but accepted that he would be their starting full-back for next season. However, a late bid from AC Milan has left some doubts.
Wenger must secure this signing to keep the fans on board. If he loses out on another top player we fear that many will see this transfer failing as the final straw. Whether failing to sign this player would be Wenger’s fault or not is questionable, but the fans will blame the Frenchman.
Finish in the top four
The race is not yet run, and if Arsenal can get over the line ahead of one of Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United or even Everton, it may just be enough to keep the haters at bay.
The club have not really been good enough to earn a place in Europe’s premier competition, yet this possible lifeline could change everything. If this were to happen and Wenger’s side could qualify for the Champions League and have a solid campaign next time around, Wenger’s position would be much more secure.
Keep his big names
It is feared by many associated with the Emirates Stadium side that talismanic stars Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil may be on their way out of the club. The pair are the Gunners’ only true world-class players, and to lose them would be a significant blow.
Arsenal have the financial resources to compete in the transfer market, and Wenger must spend wisely but ruthlessly to acquire the players capable of competing for the title once more. If Wenger can convince Ozil and Sanchez of the club’s ambition, then things could look very different by the new season.
Conclusion
Arsene Wenger is currently teetering on the edge. His job is finely balanced, and although it looks like he will be staying for a couple more years, the backing of the fans and more importantly his own players will be vital in Arsenal turning their fortunes around. Signing Kolasniac on a free would be an excellent start, and something Wenger may clinch in the next few days, with the player’s father announcing that a decision is imminent.
The top four is not in their hands, but with games to spare, Arsenal are still very much in the hunt for a Champions League finish.
The club cannot dither this summer, though. They must go hard to grab the world stars, convincing the fans and the players that Arsenal are still a force to be reckoned with. If all this falls together, then we may still have the Frenchman for a few more years yet.
