da gbg bet: Neil Lennon has confirmed that Arsenal target Kieran Tierney will be ready to return from injury in the next two weeks.
What’s the story?
As reported by The Scottish Sun, Lennon has stated that Tierney will be back playing football soon, even though it now looks like he will be doing so south of the border.
Tierney has been out all summer with a pubic injury and a hernia issue. Yet, with the hernia problems clearing up, the Celts boss has stated that his star isn’t far away, shutting down rumours that an eight-week absence could have ended Tierney’s chances of joining Arsenal, declaring: “He’ll be fit in a week or two. I know there’s talk of him being out for another eight weeks, but that’s nonsense.”
The 22-year-old is expected to undergo a medical to sign for Arsenal on Thursday, as BBC Sport report a £25m deal has been agreed between the two clubs.
A timely return
Lennon’s clarification, just hours before the English window closes, comes at a good time for all the parties involved, as the type of “nonsense” he alludes to could have scuppered a huge profit for the Bhoys and left Arsenal without a new left-back, if it were true that is.
With the next month being critical to the success of the Scottish champions, a return to first-team action for one of his star players would have been a huge boost, but banking £25m as he returns to fitness isn’t too shabby either.
Celtic will know their European fate come the end of August, as well as having played a League Cup round of 16 tie and taken on Steven Gerrard’s Rangers by the end of the Scottish window, so it’s crucial the manager has as much of his first-team set as possible before the deadline.
Boli Bolingoli-Mbombo has impressed so far, but would be much better suited rotating in and out of these huge upcoming games, rather than taking on the entire gruelling gauntlet alone having only just arrived in Scotland this summer, and Tierney’s pending sale will contribute massively to finding support for Mbombo.
Lennon’s comments on Tierney also put added pressure on Arsenal, who now can’t blame his injury if they fail to complete a deal, which is still possible with a medical not yet completed.
The update is of course of huge benefit to the Gunners too – signing a nearly fit Tierney, rather than one with several weeks of recovery left, will make a huge difference to the early parts of their campaign.
This is a win-win for everyone involved.
