He said: “I only hear good things about Arteta. From a player’s perspective, they believe in what he is saying, they understand his words and messages.
“Speaking to staff around the club, they’re talking about the level of analysis they’re doing, work they’re doing on behaviour, on and off the pitch. They’ve said ‘look, you need to go for war with each other, you need to be there for each other, whether it is in good moments or bad, whether there are mistakes or good passages of play. You stick together and the body language and absolutely everything is important.
“From a tactical point of view, from an emotional point of view, I heard he (Arteta) gave an unbelievable speech before the Manchester United game on New Year’s Day.”
Exciting verdict
Make no mistake about it, Ornstein’s insight into life around Arsenal at the moment under Arteta’s leadership sounds very promising indeed. The Gunners desperately needed someone to uplift some of the doom and gloom that had engulfed Emery’s time at the club – a situation that reached its boiling point when Granit Xhaka snapped at the Emirates crowd.
Can you name all of these obscure Arsenal signings? Give it a go now!
In the space of a few weeks, Arteta has appeared to rejuvenate spirits, with even players like Xhaka – who was linked with a January exit – now back in favour, playing the full 90 minutes in his side’s last five Premier League games. It has been quite the turnaround in mentality, even though results haven’t exactly shown that, with the win over United still being the main highlight.
But if the recently-appointed Gunners head coach can continue to shape an identity at the club, then the north London side will be confident of reaching their potential sooner rather than later.
Meanwhile, Arsenal fans have been left hailing this loanee’s impressive goal-scoring performance.
