da aviator aposta: According to Spanish journalist Guillem Balague, Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino rejected the chance to become Real Madrid boss during the summer.
Zinedine Zidane left the Bernabeu at the end of last season having delivered a third straight Champions League title.
Julen Lopetegui – in charge of Spain at the time – was announced as Zidane’s replacement on the eve of the 2018 World Cup, but according to Balague, Pochettino was first choice.
The 46-year-old has been in charge of Tottenham since 2014, and it would be fair to say that the Argentine has done a fine job at the helm, despite failing to secure a trophy.
Pochettino’s managerial career started at Espanyol in 2009, and it is understood that Real Madrid and indeed Barcelona are admirers of the Spurs boss.
