da fazobetai: According to club insider ExWHUemployee, Declan Rice is no closer to signing a new contract at West Ham United.
What’s the story?
Rice’s current deal at the London Stadium will expire at the end of next season, and the 19-year-old has been locked in talks with West Ham over the last few months.
A wide range of figures have been mentioned, but the bottom line is that West Ham are not currently prepared to meet Rice’s wage demands.
The Republic of Ireland international is still on his £3,000-a-week salary with the capital club, and is believed to have rejected a basic of £15,000 a week plus additions.
Various sources have claimed over the last few days that Rice is nearing an agreement, but according to ExWHUemployee, that is simply not the case, with ‘no communication’ taking place for ‘over a month’.
There is a genuine fear that the midfielder could decide to leave the Hammers, and he would certainly not be short of offers if that was indeed the case.
How will this one end?
Rice is desperate to stay at West Ham, and the club are desperate to keep him. The numbers have to add up, however, and that is currently not the case.
It does seem strange that Javier Hernandez is on £145,000 a week at West Ham yet the club cannot find the funds for Rice, but the latter is still in the early stages of his career, and still has plenty to prove at the top level.

Rice will argue that Under-23s at the likes of Chelsea are on more money than he is being offered, and the Blues along with Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United and Liverpool are all said to be monitoring developments.
The teenager has impressed in his 12 appearances for West Ham this season, and certainly has the capabilities of becoming a future captain of the club.
This one is showing no signs of ending, however, which is a big concern for the Hammers.
